Travel east or west on I-70 and take Exit 10 towards the Highlands. Travel west down Cabela Drive. Turn left onto Satterfield Drive between Quaker Steak and Lube and Primanti Bros. Continue down the road between Best Buy and Hobby Lobby. Our center is located on the right inside the metal fences.

♻️ When can I drop-off my recycling?
The center is open Tuesdays 7:00a to 3:00p, Thursdays 11:00a to 7:00p, Saturdays 8:00a to 12:00p.
We are closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
♻️ Can I drop my recycling off after hours?
You may only drop your recycling off during our normal business hours or at an event where OCSWA is tabling. You may NOT drop your recycling off by our closed gate. Our center is under 24/7 video surveillance. The act of dumping your recycling at our gate is a crime punishable with a fine up to $50,000. We may also use a photo of you illegally dumping your materials on our social media pages!
♻️ What does your center accept?
*Please ensure all of your recycling is separated into different containers.*
Our center accepts the following:
1. CARDBOARD AND MIXED PAPER PRODUCTS - cardboard boxes, newspapers, magazines, mail, and other paper products.
- Please ensure all plastic packaging and styrofoam is removed.
- Tape or plastic windows on mail can be left on.
- Products with glitter or foil films cannot be accepted.
- Products that are grease-stained (like pizza boxes and fast food containers) cannot be accepted.
- Products that are wax treated or waterproofed cannot be accepted.
- Please tear down all boxes OR fill them to capacity with other paper products.
2. SCRAP METAL AND BI-METAL CANS - Food and soup cans and various scrap metal. NO items with refrigerant are accepted.
- Any metal can or scrap metal that can stick to a magnet are accepted.
- Items that are a mix of metal and non-metal materials must be at least 50% metal.
- Food and soup cans must be rinsed out to remove contamination.
3. ALUMINUM - Drink cans, foils, and baking sheets.
- Please rinse out your aluminum to remove contamination.
- Drink cans are to be separated from foils and baking sheets
4. PLASTICS #1, #2, and #5 - hard plastics like water bottles, plastic jugs, mayonnaise jars, planters.
- Locate a number in a recycle symbol on your plastic container (typically at the bottom).
- If there is no number or it is not #1, #2, or #5, our center cannot accept it.
- Please rinse out your plastic to remove any contamination.
5. SQUISHY PLASTIC - squishy, stretchy, or filmy plastic like grocery bags, trash bags, ziplock bags, ice bags, bubble wrap, amazon mailers.
- These must be separated from your hard plastics.
- In partnership with Trex waterproof decking company and the Ohio County Virtual Lion's Club, for every 1,000 lbs of filmy plastic sent to Trex to be recycled into their products, Trex will gift a park bench to the community. Trex limits organizations to one bench per year, so we partner with several organizations in the community. You will see these benches peppered throughout Ohio County.

7. TENNIS SHOES / ATHLETIC SNEAKERS
- Please tie your pair of shoes together by the shoestrings.
- All wear and tear is accepted.
8. TIRES
- WEST VIRGINIA RESIDENTS can bring their tires (off rim) to the center on the 2nd and 4th Saturday's of the month.
- If you are bringing more than ten (10) tires you must schedule an appointment by calling (304) 639-8875, emailing properdisposal@ocswawv.org, or by messaging us on this website.
♻️ What do you not accept?
Glass, styrofoam, pizza boxes, wax-coated cardboard, plastic types #3, #6, #7, or household trash.
♻️ Do you accept household hazardous waste?
Yes! Once per year at The Highlands recycling center, we can take household hazardous waste like varnish, oil-based paints (no latex), stains, pesticides, auto and appliance batteries, fuel, oil, fluorescent light tubes, pool chemicals, oil filters, tires (without rims), lighter fluid, kerosene, turpentine, transmission fluids, antifreeze, and mercury. The 2024 event occurred on September 28, 2024, from 9:00a to 3:00p. The next HHW collection event will occur in 2025.
♻️ Can I find you anywhere else other than The Highlands?
- Yes! From June through August, OCSWA has a presence at the Warwood Farmer's Market on Tuesdays 4:00p to 7:00p and Waterfront Wednesdays at Heritage Port on Wednesdays 6:00p to 9:00p. You can bring your recycling to us during these events.
- We offer FREE yoga events through TryThisWV and Rising Up Yoga Studio on Tuesdays from 5:30p to 6:30p at the Federated Church in West Liberty, W.Va. These classes are for anyone, beginner to expert. Child care is available for those who need it. Yoga mats are available upon advance notice. These classes will be offered weekly until Dec. 3, 2024.
